A 79-year-old female is admitted to the geriatrics ward with fever, rigors, flank pain, and dysuria

A 79-year-old female is admitted to the geriatrics ward with fever, rigors, flank pain, and dysuria. She is diagnosed with pyelonephritis and is started on ciprofloxacin, which her urine culture later confirms sensitivity towards. Although her urinary symptoms improve a few days later, she develops profuse diarrhoea, with bowel movements of type 6/7 stool, 5 times a day. Her past medical history includes hypercholesterolaemia, for which she takes a statin. She takes no other regular medications and has no drug or dietary allergies. On examination, she has no abdominal pain, guarding or rebound tenderness.
