An 8-year-old male presents to his GP with diffuse pain in his abdomen
An 8-year-old male presents to his GP with diffuse pain in his abdomen, vomiting and yellowish discolouration of the skin after ingestion of dinner, which was a fava bean curry. His parents noted that he has recently been pale and breathless after being on a course of antibiotics for mild cellulitis, which they thought was just related to the underlying infection. Blood tests confirmed that the boy was suffering from anaemia, with a high serum bilirubin.
