A 23-year-old woman presents to the GP following periods of breathlessness, chest tightness, sweating and a tremor. These periods last for 2-3 minutes and come on sporadically with no apparent triggers but breathing techniques help calm them down. The GP suspects these episodes are panic attacks. The woman explains that she would like some medication to reduce the incidence of these attacks but would not like to be put on medications that could potentially be addictive.
