A 3-year-old boy presents to the emergency department with shortness of breath, loud breathing, excessive crying, and distress. The boy is suspected to have epiglottitis and is therefore treated very carefully by the team. After a senior nurse visualises the airway, the diagnosis is confirmed. A sample comes back from the lab and cultures haemophilus influenzae. The weight of the child is 12 kg.
Please prescribe one antibiotic to treat this child’s epiglottitis.
