A 67-year-old male presents to the GP with difficulty of urination and incontinence at night.
A 67-year-old male presents to the GP with difficulty urinating. He has recently been diagnosed with benign prostatic hyperplasia. His PSA level on his previous visit was 2 ng/ml and he has been managed with tamsulosin 400 micrograms since. Whilst this resulted in an initial improvement in his symptoms, he states that over time they have progressively gotten worse and would like to trial another medication if possible. He has a past medical history of diabetes and takes metformin 500mg BD.
Please prescribe one medication that would be most suitable for treating this patient.
