A course for applicants ready to practise

This course is for applicants to Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry who want more practice, specific feedback and confidence answering questions out loud.

You do not need polished answers before you arrive. The day is there to help you develop them.

What you will get from the day

Teaching focused on Barts

Understand what to expect from the Barts interview and how to approach it. Your tutors will explain the format, work through examples and answer your questions, drawing on current published guidance and their own experience.

Interview practice with students who have been there

Practise explaining your thinking, choosing examples and responding when a question makes you pause. Your mocks are assessed by current Barts medical students who know what it is like to be in your position.

Feedback you can put into practice

Your tutors will help you identify what is working and where your answers need attention. That might mean a clearer opening, more reflection on an experience or a more concise explanation of your reasoning.

Leave with a clearer idea of your strengths and what to work on before interview day.

A chance to learn from other applicants

Watching other applicants and hearing their feedback helps you spot what makes an answer clear and where it loses focus. You may recognise habits in your own answers and find ways to improve them.

1:1 Mentoring
The live course gives you the frameworks, the core topics and the confidence to handle any interview. To go further, book a 1:1 mentoring session with a current medical student from Barts. They sat the same interview recently, so they can run realistic mock stations in the Barts format, use the same timings, and give you honest, personal feedback on exactly what to improve.

Mentoring is new to Medibuddy, and we're adding new mentors and medical schools all the time. Sessions are booked separately from the live course and run on video at a time that suits you. You can start before the course, use them afterwards to practise what you've learned, or save them for a final mock just before your interview.

Barts medicine interview questions and format

At Barts, medicine interviews for 2027 entry will take place online between January and February. Interviews are held with a panel, which typically includes two members of senior academic or clinical staff and sometimes a lay selector. Your interview invitation will confirm the format and timings for your interview.

Barts says the interview explores your understanding of the realities of a career in medicine. Your preparation could cover your motivation, initiative, resilience and maturity, teamwork, organisation and problem solving, communication and what you would contribute to university life.

How to prepare for your Barts medicine interview

Get to know Barts and prepare your examples

Think about why you want to study medicine at Barts, where you join a small group GP placement in your first month and later train in hospitals across east London and beyond. Barts expects applicants to have people-focused experience of providing care or service, so reflect on what yours taught you about the realities of working in healthcare. Having examples ready of resilience, teamwork and organisation gives you a useful starting point.

Put your preparation into practice on our live interview course

Spend a day with current Barts medical students who have successfully been through the interview. Your tutors will work through examples before you practise answering questions out loud in mock interviews. You will receive personal feedback and learn from watching other applicants and hearing their feedback.

Leave with a clearer idea of what to work on, whether that is choosing stronger examples, explaining what you learnt or making your answers more concise.

Book a mentor session for additional 1:1 practice

If you would like more individual support, book a mentoring session with a current Barts medical student. Use the time for mock interview practice and personal feedback on the areas you want to improve. Mentoring sessions are booked and paid for separately; they are not included in the live interview course.

Common questions about the Barts interview course

Will I practise the exact questions Barts will ask?
We use practice questions and scenarios to help you develop your approach. These draw on current published guidance and our tutors' experience, rather than a promise of the exact questions you will be asked.
Is this an official Queen Mary University of London course?
No. This is an independent Medibuddy course, not run or endorsed by Queen Mary University of London.
Should I prepare before attending?
Think about why you want to study medicine, what you have learnt from your experiences and why you are applying to Barts. Read the university's interview information too. You do not need to memorise answers.
What if I am nervous about practising in front of others?
That is a common reason to attend. You will practise with other applicants and supportive tutors, giving you a chance to work through the nerves before interview day.
Where does the course take place?
The whole course runs live online on Google Meet, so you can join from home. After booking you will get a Google Calendar invite with the Meet link and a confirmation email. Join with the email address you booked with.
Can I attend if I am under 18?
Yes. The course is designed for applicants to Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry, including those under 18.
What is the cancellation policy?
You can cancel for a full refund with at least 48 hours' notice before the course starts. To cancel or ask a question, email info@medibuddy.co.uk.
Will the Barts interview panel see my UCAS application?
Barts says your panel may have access to your UCAS application and may ask questions based on it. Reread your application before the interview so you can talk confidently about anything you included.
How are Barts interview results used?
Barts says selection after interview may consider all assessment factors, including your interview score, UCAT, situational judgement score and academic results. Decisions are communicated in March, once all interviews have been completed.
