A course for applicants ready to practise

This course is for applicants to Birmingham Medical School who want more practice, specific feedback and confidence answering questions out loud.

You do not need polished answers before you arrive. The day is there to help you develop them.

What you will get from the day

Teaching focused on Birmingham

Understand what to expect from the Birmingham interview and how to approach it. Your tutors will explain the format, work through examples and answer your questions, drawing on current published guidance and their own experience.

Interview practice with students who have been there

Practise explaining your thinking, choosing examples and responding when a question makes you pause. Your mocks are assessed by current Birmingham medical students who know what it is like to be in your position.

Feedback you can put into practice

Your tutors will help you identify what is working and where your answers need attention. That might mean a clearer opening, more reflection on an experience or a more concise explanation of your reasoning.

Leave with a clearer idea of your strengths and what to work on before interview day.

A chance to learn from other applicants

Watching other applicants and hearing their feedback helps you spot what makes an answer clear and where it loses focus. You may recognise habits in your own answers and find ways to improve them.

1:1 Mentoring
The live course gives you the frameworks, the core topics and the confidence to handle any interview. To go further, book a 1:1 mentoring session with a current medical student from Birmingham. They sat the same interview recently, so they can run realistic mock stations in the Birmingham format, use the same timings, and give you honest, personal feedback on exactly what to improve.

Mentoring is new to Medibuddy, and we're adding new mentors and medical schools all the time. Sessions are booked separately from the live course and run on video at a time that suits you. You can start before the course, use them afterwards to practise what you've learned, or save them for a final mock just before your interview.

Birmingham medicine interview questions and format

Birmingham’s medicine interviews for 2027 entry use multiple mini interviews. Home applicants are interviewed in person at the Medical School over six or seven stations, each lasting eight minutes including two minutes of preparation, while international applicants are interviewed online via Zoom. Your interview invitation will confirm the format and timings for your interview.

Birmingham says the way you approach each station is often as important as your answers. Your preparation could cover your commitment to and insight into medicine, communication, empathy, ethical reasoning, reflecting on yourself and making sense of information.

How to prepare for your Birmingham medicine interview

Get to know Birmingham and prepare your examples

Think about why you want to study medicine at Birmingham, where the first two years combine campus teaching with a weekly clinical skills day in simulation and general practice. Birmingham says its commitment stations focus on experiences of providing or witnessing care or support for vulnerable people, which do not have to involve doctors. Keeping up with medical news and discussing issues with friends and family is another way Birmingham suggests you prepare.

Put your preparation into practice on our live interview course

Spend a day with current Birmingham medical students who have successfully been through the interview. Your tutors will work through examples before you practise answering questions out loud in mock interviews. You will receive personal feedback and learn from watching other applicants and hearing their feedback.

Leave with a clearer idea of what to work on, whether that is choosing stronger examples, explaining what you learnt or making your answers more concise.

Book a mentor session for additional 1:1 practice

If you would like more individual support, book a mentoring session with a current Birmingham medical student. Use the time for mock interview practice and personal feedback on the areas you want to improve. Mentoring sessions are booked and paid for separately; they are not included in the live interview course.

Common questions about the Birmingham interview course

Will I practise the exact questions Birmingham will ask?
We use practice questions and scenarios to help you develop your approach. These draw on current published guidance and our tutors' experience, rather than a promise of the exact questions you will be asked.
Is this an official University of Birmingham course?
No. This is an independent Medibuddy course, not run or endorsed by the University of Birmingham.
Should I prepare before attending?
Think about why you want to study medicine, what you have learnt from your experiences and why you are applying to Birmingham. Read the university's interview information too. You do not need to memorise answers.
What if I am nervous about practising in front of others?
That is a common reason to attend. You will practise with other applicants and supportive tutors, giving you a chance to work through the nerves before interview day.
Where does the course take place?
The whole course runs live online on Google Meet, so you can join from home. After booking you will get a Google Calendar invite with the Meet link and a confirmation email. Join with the email address you booked with.
Can I attend if I am under 18?
Yes. The course is designed for applicants to Birmingham Medical School, including those under 18.
What is the cancellation policy?
You can cancel for a full refund with at least 48 hours' notice before the course starts. To cancel or ask a question, email info@medibuddy.co.uk.
How does Birmingham decide medicine offers after interview?
Birmingham bases offers on your interview performance and UCAT situational judgement score only, with all stations and the situational judgement score equally weighted. There is also a minimum standard for each interview station, so it helps to prepare evenly for every area.
Can I get reasonable adjustments for my Birmingham interview?
Yes. Birmingham reserves some interview slots with extra reading time for disabled applicants who usually receive 25% extra time in exams, and other adjustments can be requested. Apply early and send your evidence promptly, as the slot may otherwise be released.
