A course for applicants ready to practise

This course is for applicants to Hull York Medical School who want more practice, specific feedback and confidence answering questions out loud.

You do not need polished answers before you arrive. The day is there to help you develop them.

What you will get from the day

Teaching focused on Hull York

Understand what to expect from the Hull York interview and how to approach it. Your tutors will explain the format, work through examples and answer your questions, drawing on current published guidance and their own experience.

Interview practice with students who have been there

Practise explaining your thinking, choosing examples and responding when a question makes you pause. Your mocks are assessed by current Hull York medical students who know what it is like to be in your position.

Feedback you can put into practice

Your tutors will help you identify what is working and where your answers need attention. That might mean a clearer opening, more reflection on an experience or a more concise explanation of your reasoning.

Leave with a clearer idea of your strengths and what to work on before interview day.

A chance to learn from other applicants

Watching other applicants and hearing their feedback helps you spot what makes an answer clear and where it loses focus. You may recognise habits in your own answers and find ways to improve them.

1:1 Mentoring
The live course gives you the frameworks, the core topics and the confidence to handle any interview. To go further, book a 1:1 mentoring session with a current medical student from Hull York. They sat the same interview recently, so they can run realistic mock stations in the Hull York format, use the same timings, and give you honest, personal feedback on exactly what to improve.

Mentoring is new to Medibuddy, and we're adding new mentors and medical schools all the time. Sessions are booked separately from the live course and run on video at a time that suits you. You can start before the course, use them afterwards to practise what you've learned, or save them for a final mock just before your interview.

Hull York medicine interview questions and format

Hull York’s interviews for 2027 entry are Multiple Mini Interviews, held in person at the University of Hull and University of York campuses for Home fee status candidates and online for overseas fee status candidates. In person, the stations include a group exercise, two mini-interviews, a station run by senior medical students and an individual video scenario. Your interview invitation will confirm the details, and all candidates attend a briefing session beforehand.

Hull York wants to learn about your personal characteristics and values, your ability to think critically, how you work in a team and whether you have a realistic understanding of medicine, and it will not test your medical knowledge. Your preparation could cover your motivation for medicine and for the Hull York course, current medical issues and the values in the NHS Constitution, which are among the areas the school scores.

How to prepare for your Hull York medicine interview

Get to know Hull York and prepare your examples

Much of the teaching at Hull York takes place in small groups through problem-based learning, so think about how you contribute to a group discussion and work with others. Look at the school’s values and reflect on what your experiences have taught you about empathy, resilience and coping with uncertainty. You do not need polished answers yet, but having examples to draw on gives you a useful starting point.

Put your preparation into practice on our live interview course

Spend a day with current Hull York medical students who have successfully been through the interview. Your tutors will work through examples before you practise answering questions out loud in mock interviews. You will receive personal feedback and learn from watching other applicants and hearing their feedback.

Leave with a clearer idea of what to work on, whether that is choosing stronger examples, explaining what you learnt or making your answers more concise.

Book a mentor session for additional 1:1 practice

If you would like more individual support, book a mentoring session with a current Hull York medical student. Use the time for mock interview practice and personal feedback on the areas you want to improve. Mentoring sessions are booked and paid for separately; they are not included in the live interview course.

Common questions about the Hull York interview course

That is a common reason to attend. You will practise with other applicants and supportive tutors, giving you a chance to work through the nerves before interview day.
Where does the course take place?
The whole course runs live online on Google Meet, so you can join from home. After booking you will get a Google Calendar invite with the Meet link and a confirmation email. Join with the email address you booked with.

You can cancel for a full refund with at least 48 hours' notice before the course starts. To cancel or ask a question, email info@medibuddy.co.uk.
What ID do I need for my Hull York interview?
Your interview invitation explains which identity documents you need to provide, and you will need them in order to be interviewed. Get them ready in advance and check the time and location of your interview, as late arrivals cannot be accommodated without evidence of exceptional circumstances.
What if I cannot attend my Hull York interview date?
Decline the invitation and contact the admissions team as soon as possible. Once all interview responses are in, Hull York will try to arrange another date if one is available, but this may not always be possible because of the number of interviews it holds.
