A course for applicants ready to practise

This course is for applicants to Sheffield Medical School who want more practice, specific feedback and confidence answering questions out loud.

You do not need polished answers before you arrive. The day is there to help you develop them.

What you will get from the day

Teaching focused on Sheffield

Understand what to expect from the Sheffield interview and how to approach it. Your tutors will explain the format, work through examples and answer your questions, drawing on current published guidance and their own experience.

Interview practice with students who have been there

Practise explaining your thinking, choosing examples and responding when a question makes you pause. Your mocks are assessed by current Sheffield medical students who know what it is like to be in your position.

Feedback you can put into practice

Your tutors will help you identify what is working and where your answers need attention. That might mean a clearer opening, more reflection on an experience or a more concise explanation of your reasoning.

Leave with a clearer idea of your strengths and what to work on before interview day.

A chance to learn from other applicants

Watching other applicants and hearing their feedback helps you spot what makes an answer clear and where it loses focus. You may recognise habits in your own answers and find ways to improve them.

1:1 Mentoring
The live course gives you the frameworks, the core topics and the confidence to handle any interview. To go further, book a 1:1 mentoring session with a current medical student from Sheffield. They sat the same interview recently, so they can run realistic mock stations in the Sheffield format, use the same timings, and give you honest, personal feedback on exactly what to improve.

Mentoring is new to Medibuddy, and we're adding new mentors and medical schools all the time. Sessions are booked separately from the live course and run on video at a time that suits you. You can start before the course, use them afterwards to practise what you've learned, or save them for a final mock just before your interview.

Sheffield medicine interview questions and format

For 2027 entry, Sheffield will interview home applicants in person using multiple mini interviews, with sessions running from 8 January to 4 February 2027, while international applicants will have online panel interviews from 12 to 14 January 2027. The MMI typically has eight stations, covering areas such as knowledge of Sheffield, good medical practice, communication skills, ethics and information processing. Your interview invitation will confirm the format and timings for your interview.

Sheffield suggests reading the NHS Constitution and the GMC’s Achieving Good Medical Practice, and keeping up to date with medical developments, ethical debates and NHS issues. Your preparation could also cover your attitudes and values, what you have learnt from work experience and how medicine fits into its wider context.

How to prepare for your Sheffield medicine interview

Get to know Sheffield and prepare your examples

Knowledge of Sheffield is one of the interview areas, so read about features of the course such as general practice placements from the first year, the Patients as Educators programme and the four-week community placement. Sheffield says work experience is likely to come up and recommends keeping a journal, so note what you saw and learnt while it is fresh. You do not need polished answers yet, but having examples to draw on gives you a useful starting point.

Put your preparation into practice on our live interview course

Spend a day with current Sheffield medical students who have successfully been through the interview. Your tutors will work through examples before you practise answering questions out loud in mock interviews. You will receive personal feedback and learn from watching other applicants and hearing their feedback.

Leave with a clearer idea of what to work on, whether that is choosing stronger examples, explaining what you learnt or making your answers more concise.

Book a mentor session for additional 1:1 practice

If you would like more individual support, book a mentoring session with a current Sheffield medical student. Use the time for mock interview practice and personal feedback on the areas you want to improve. Mentoring sessions are booked and paid for separately; they are not included in the live interview course.

Common questions about the Sheffield interview course

Will I practise the exact questions Sheffield will ask?
We use practice questions and scenarios to help you develop your approach. These draw on current published guidance and our tutors' experience, rather than a promise of the exact questions you will be asked.
Is this an official University of Sheffield course?
No. This is an independent Medibuddy course, not run or endorsed by the University of Sheffield.
Should I prepare before attending?
Think about why you want to study medicine, what you have learnt from your experiences and why you are applying to Sheffield. Read the university's interview information too. You do not need to memorise answers.
What if I am nervous about practising in front of others?
That is a common reason to attend. You will practise with other applicants and supportive tutors, giving you a chance to work through the nerves before interview day.
Where does the course take place?
The whole course runs live online on Google Meet, so you can join from home. After booking you will get a Google Calendar invite with the Meet link and a confirmation email. Join with the email address you booked with.
Can I attend if I am under 18?
Yes. The course is designed for applicants to Sheffield Medical School, including those under 18.
What is the cancellation policy?
You can cancel for a full refund with at least 48 hours' notice before the course starts. To cancel or ask a question, email info@medibuddy.co.uk.
Do Sheffield interviewers read my personal statement?
No. Sheffield’s interviewers do not read your UCAS personal statement, although questions often explore topics that personal statements commonly cover. Be ready to talk about your experiences without assuming the interviewer already knows them.
How are Sheffield medicine interviews scored?
Each MMI section is scored out of five, and your UCAT Situational Judgement Test result is converted to a score out of five. These are added together for a total out of 45, and applicants who score three or above in every section and the SJT are prioritised in the ranking.
