A course for applicants ready to practise

This course is for applicants to University of Sunderland School of Medicine who want more practice, specific feedback and confidence answering questions out loud.

You do not need polished answers before you arrive. The day is there to help you develop them.

What you will get from the day

Teaching focused on Sunderland

Understand what to expect from the Sunderland interview and how to approach it. Your tutors will explain the format, work through examples and answer your questions, drawing on current published guidance and their own experience.

Interview practice with students who have been there

Practise explaining your thinking, choosing examples and responding when a question makes you pause. Your mocks are assessed by current Sunderland medical students who know what it is like to be in your position.

Feedback you can put into practice

Your tutors will help you identify what is working and where your answers need attention. That might mean a clearer opening, more reflection on an experience or a more concise explanation of your reasoning.

Leave with a clearer idea of your strengths and what to work on before interview day.

A chance to learn from other applicants

Watching other applicants and hearing their feedback helps you spot what makes an answer clear and where it loses focus. You may recognise habits in your own answers and find ways to improve them.

1:1 Mentoring
The live course gives you the frameworks, the core topics and the confidence to handle any interview. To go further, book a 1:1 mentoring session with a current medical student from Sunderland. They sat the same interview recently, so they can run realistic mock stations in the Sunderland format, use the same timings, and give you honest, personal feedback on exactly what to improve.

Mentoring is new to Medibuddy, and we're adding new mentors and medical schools all the time. Sessions are booked separately from the live course and run on video at a time that suits you. You can start before the course, use them afterwards to practise what you've learned, or save them for a final mock just before your interview.

Sunderland medicine interview questions and format

Sunderland’s medicine interviews for 2027 entry take the form of multiple mini-interviews, held in person at the School of Medicine. Stations can range from a one-to-one traditional interview to role-play and data analysis. Your interview invitation will confirm the format and timings for your interview.

Sunderland says its interviews explore your motivation and the experiences behind your decision to study medicine, as well as empathy, insight, resilience, comprehension and communication. Your preparation could also cover the responsibilities and challenges of being a doctor and your awareness of ethical issues in health and society.

How to prepare for your Sunderland medicine interview

Get to know Sunderland and prepare your examples

Sunderland teaches mainly in small groups, using problem-based and case-based learning, with early clinical experience from Year 1 and later placements in local hospitals and GP practices. Think about why that approach and its focus on the needs of diverse communities appeal to you. Look back over the experiences you described in the interview selection tool, so you have examples ready to draw on.

Put your preparation into practice on our live interview course

Spend a day with current Sunderland medical students who have successfully been through the interview. Your tutors will work through examples before you practise answering questions out loud in mock interviews. You will receive personal feedback and learn from watching other applicants and hearing their feedback.

Leave with a clearer idea of what to work on, whether that is choosing stronger examples, explaining what you learnt or making your answers more concise.

Book a mentor session for additional 1:1 practice

If you would like more individual support, book a mentoring session with a current Sunderland medical student. Use the time for mock interview practice and personal feedback on the areas you want to improve. Mentoring sessions are booked and paid for separately; they are not included in the live interview course.

Common questions about the Sunderland interview course

Will I practise the exact questions Sunderland will ask?
We use practice questions and scenarios to help you develop your approach. These draw on current published guidance and our tutors' experience, rather than a promise of the exact questions you will be asked.
Is this an official University of Sunderland course?
No. This is an independent Medibuddy course, not run or endorsed by the University of Sunderland.
Should I prepare before attending?
Think about why you want to study medicine, what you have learnt from your experiences and why you are applying to Sunderland. Read the university's interview information too. You do not need to memorise answers.
What if I am nervous about practising in front of others?
That is a common reason to attend. You will practise with other applicants and supportive tutors, giving you a chance to work through the nerves before interview day.
Where does the course take place?
The whole course runs live online on Google Meet, so you can join from home. After booking you will get a Google Calendar invite with the Meet link and a confirmation email. Join with the email address you booked with.
Can I attend if I am under 18?
Yes. The course is designed for applicants to University of Sunderland School of Medicine, including those under 18.
What is the cancellation policy?
You can cancel for a full refund with at least 48 hours' notice before the course starts. To cancel or ask a question, email info@medibuddy.co.uk.
Will my work experience come up in my Sunderland interview?
Yes. Sunderland says you will be asked about your work experience, and some stations assess skills you developed through it, so it is worth reflecting on what you learnt. Shadowing does not count as work experience for shortlisting, but Sunderland notes it can still be useful preparation for interview.
What if I cannot attend my Sunderland interview date?
Contact the Medical Admissions Office straight away. Sunderland only considers rescheduling for extenuating circumstances with supporting evidence, and interviews cannot be offered outside the interview period, so if you cannot attend during that period your application will be treated as unsuccessful.
