Oliver Brown is a 25 year-old-gentleman who has presented to his GP with a 3-month history of fatigue, pallor, exertional dyspnoea, and weakness. These symptoms began a couple of months after changing to a vegetarian diet, but he does not think this is the cause. His blood results demonstrate a microcytic anaemia, and a reduced serum ferritin. He is otherwise fit and well, and no other abnormalities are detected.
